Scummy Practice. Do not trust them.
My parents had both purchased travel insurance in order to apply for their VISA.
Unfortunately, they did not hear back until months later due to COVID delays & the applications were rejected.
I have phoned Manulife and explained what happened & requested a refund for the policies that were never used. They simply said no because it’s past the effective day, while fully aware of the fact that the delay was out of our control.
Do not ever use or trust this company. I hope karma will eventually get them.
They’re a scam
Even though you buy and pay for your benefits, and they give you an amount to use each year, it is required you get a doctors note and diagnose every time you want to go to the chiropractor, massage therapy or acupuncture. It is beyond inconvenient and time consuming for someone that has a back problem and needs to get therapy on a consistent basis.
This was never explained when we got the benefits and they’re making sure they do everything on their end to not refund the money I payed to use for some of these appointments. Do not waste your time or money, I’ve been with other providers that will never try to scam you like this

My father bought my mother an annuity from manulife prior to his death in 2012. For some reason manulife did not pay the annual amount to my mother from 2012 to 2020. Early in 2021 my mother’s accountant noted that my mother had to pay tax on an amount from the manulife annuity yet the money was not paid. A simple mistake right? I should have been able to fix it with one phonecall. Manulife would apologize and payments would resume as required under Canadian law. WRONG! I started my phone calls in April and got blocked by the people who answer the phones. “We will provide that information by the end of the day” No calls. No information. This carries on into May. I was getting nowhere so I asked to speak to a manager. “No” said Rose from Manulife. I phoned almost every day. By June manulife wanted to know who the hell am I and why should I have this information? Send us your father’s death certificate and your POA for your mother. I sent both those documents in 2012 after the death of my father. I asked if they could just go to the file and pull the documents? “NO” was the response. Now they wanted me to resend those documents along with a form that my mother should sign. I explained that she was 96 and suffering from dementia and she was unable to sign. Then I was supposed to drive 300 kilometers in the middle of the pandemic to get my mother’s physician to fill out a form stating that my mother was incapable of filling out a form. At that point – and we are at the three month mark – I gathered all the notes I had been taking from every phone call, scanned them, and sent them to the Ombudsman. A week later I get a call from “Paulo” “I am a TEAM LEADER and I am here to help”. “You could start by paying my mother the interest that you earned while not paying out on the annuity for the last 8 years” I said “We don’t do that” was the reply. After a month of dealing with Paulo the payments were restored. A total of four months went by to fix a manulife mistake. Terrible company. Terrible people. Save the time and contact the ombudsman the first time. Manulife will not do the right thing unless they are forced to. Minus 5 stars.
Manulife is the worst for customer service
I feel sorry for the elderly, the switch board is too busy and just hangs up. The website you can not link any of your products to your portfolio it does not work and when you ask for assistance customer support cant even complete the task. Word of advice use someone else to retire with because when your older Manulife will making logging on to make adjustments far too difficult and I’m only 28.
Don’t waste your time or money with Manulife.
After purchasing travel insurance from Manulife CoverMe, I had an unexpected health event which required me to submit an insurance claim through Manulife Insurance, who appoints Global Excel Management to provide all assistance and claims services under their policy. After countless follow up phone calls and waiting almost 3 months for a response, I received a letter from Global Excel saying Manulife CoverMe would not reimburse me for the cost of my trip even though I had provided the medical proof necessary to show I could not travel. Manulife and Global Excel have tried to use the excuse that I have a travel voucher as a reason to not reimburse me even though I cannot use the voucher within the specified amount of time. I will be fighting this until I get my money back, even if I have to escalate this to a more public platform to show that Manulife Travel Insurance and Global Excel cannot be trusted to provide customer service for legitimate travel insurance reimbursements. If I could give Manulife a zero out of 5 stars, I would but that unfortunately not an option. I will keep you all posted.
Manulife Travel Insurance sucks

My name is Marco from Toronto Canada. I bought a Manulife Travel Insurance for my wife, my daughter and myself to go to Mexico for 2 months. At the beginning of December, 2021. My wife got an stomach infection ( gastroenteritis ) and I took her to the Mexican Red Cross to the emergency room.
I contacted them using the policy phone number and after 2 hours waiting, a guy answered me with a very bad attitude as if he would be making me a favor.
He gave me a case number and an email to send the invoices, prescriptions and all the documents from the hospital by email.
I sent them after 2 days around the middle of December, 2021. Today It is January 18, 2022. Until now I did NOT get any answer and any payment either.
This Manulife Travel Insurance SUCKS. DO NOT waste your money and time in this crappy service. You can be in a serious health trouble trusting in this sh**** company.

Absolute worst insurance company out there.
Go find another company to do business with, SISIP/Manulife will find any excuse to take you off disability.
No matter how much you pay into it, or what your injury is, they will find the slightest excuse to deny insurance payout.
They don’t want to pay out, even to veterans. Avoid them at all costs.
Sadly I was stupid and didn’t do my research, I assumed since they where heavily advertised within and work with the Canadian Military, they wouldn’t do everything in their power to destroy an injured vet financially. Boy was I wrong.
Worst insurance company ever
I was not aware of the 12 month rolling period for purchasing orthotics, I purchased a set 2 days prior to my 12 month term. I fought with them over many conversations and ended up needing to write a letter to appeal the situation. They told me it would be resolved in 2 weeks, after almost 2 months of constantly calling and getting an update on the status I got a letter in the mail that looked like an automated response. Pretty much an F-off letter, thanks for wasting your time. I was shocked my appeal was declined because of 2 days, and with covid times where we are all struggling, I would not be re-imbursed for the $500 because of my purchase date. Technically my orthotics arrived after the 12 month period, but shocked how incompassionate this company is, while a pain to deal with, which has come up more on multiple occasions. If you have a choice, do not choose Manulife!

Bought travel insurance back in 2016 and my body got acclimatized coming from a cold winter country to a blazing hot tropical get away, my nose has been bleeding for several days and had to go to the ER. called their cx service so i can get a claim on my hospital expenses, got all the receipts and invoices from the hospital only to be told that I would need to have an affidavit of a lawyer. You kidding me? They only want your money but makes up all these excuses so they wouldnt have to pay you.
Recently, i decided to give them another chance, bought a flipping $300 coverage for travel insurance for my wife, effing up til now I haven’t heard from them after we submitted our claim.
would NEVER EVER EVER get this scammy insurance anymore.

Worst place for a mortgage
Do not use Manulife! Terrible customer service. Reuested a mortgage discharge amount and had to call them 5 times for them to finally send it. Wouldn’t respond to our new bank we are dealing with for our new mortgage. Quoted us a price to payout our mortgage and raised it $5000 in less than 2 months. This bank is awful. Avoid it at all costs
