Frequently asked questions about electrician insurance:

Policies for electrician insurance start at around $650 annually for a small business with no physical office or company vehicles. There are a number of factors that will determine the actual cost of your premiums. Here are some of them:

  • Where your company is based
  • The annual revenues of your business
  • How many employees you have
  • The number of years of experience you and your staff have
  • Whether you have had past claims

If you or your employees use your own personal vehicles for your electrical contracting business, your personal auto insurance policy is not enough. You need what is called non-owned automobile coverage. The extra coverage will cost you a little more, but will ensure you’re protected if you get in an accident.

Home-based electrical contractor businesses don’t need commercial property insurance. Remember, however, that your home insurance policy doesn’t cover business-related tools, equipment and materials that you may store there. Talk to your insurance broker to make sure you have the right coverage.

The most common types of claims for electrical contractors are theft of materials from job sites or vehicles followed by losses caused by fire. For the latter, claims for fire losses are equally common whether you are working in people’s homes or in commercial buildings.
